Claiming prescriptions donated

I donated a large amount of insulin and other drugs to a walk-in free clinic after my husband passed. Can I claim as a charity deduction?  If so, what amount, because there are two:

1. The amount charged  by the drug maker (so the worth of the drug?)

2. The amount I paid to the pharmacy.

Hello @PeggyFromIowa !

Unfortunately, you can only claim the fair market value of items donated as a tax deduction. Because prescription drugs have no resale value to you, you are not able to claim them as a tax deduction when you donate them.

I hope that helps!

All my best,
