I only received a partial payment amount of the unemployment tax from the IRS, will receive the rest of that tax refund?

Hi Cynthia!
Did the partial payment that you're referring to come as a refund over the summer, or was it included in your original refund?

Refund over the summer based on what President Biden said.

I had already filed my taxes before the President said we would be reimbursed for the unemployment taxes.

The amount that you received as an additional refund over the summer will more than likely be all that you are due. Unfortunately, you will not be getting back all of the tax you paid while receiving unemployment income. As part of the American Rescue Plan, the first $10,200 worth of unemployment income qualifies as an exemption from your taxable income on your tax return. This means that you got a reduction in tax (although this wasn't necessarily the case for everyone), which is the amount you received over the summer as a refund, but it will not automatically mean that you are owed all the tax you paid in under your unemployment income.
