Estimated taxes payments for couples filing jointly

Hello,

My wife and I files taxes jointly. Last month my wife made an estimated tax payment to irs, but she happened to use her ssn when filing.

In our tax returns, I have been the primary filer. Does it make a difference on which taxpayer should be filing the estimated tax. I was advised last week that only the primary filer should be making estimated tax payments?

If so, is there a way for me to correct this with IRS, or get our money back so I can file it correctly?

It doesn't matter. You don't have to correct anything. The estimated tax payments that either one of you makes individually just get added together on your joint tax return.

When you are preparing your joint 2021 tax return next year, just enter the amount of each estimated tax payment that either of you made. TurboTax doesn't even ask you who made the payment.
