If I am listed as a dependent on a parent's filing, should I still file with my own 1098-T information?

I received scholarship money, but I am not paying for my education expenses. Should I enter the 1098-T information in my own filing if I am listed as a dependent for the person paying my education expenses? Or should they file the scholarship information in my 1098-T?

If you are claimed as a dependent by your parents, then only your parents can claim your education credits such as the American Opportunity credit, the Lifetime Learning credit or the tuition deduction.

However, if you have scholarships which are not used for qualified education expenses, then the portion not used for education expenses is taxable to you and you should enter also enter the 1098-T on your own tax return, not to claim education credits but only to determine the taxable portion of scholarships.
