The principal business code is a six digit number that represents the field of work you are in. This code is entered on your Schedule C. The complete list of codes can be found on pages 17-18 of the link below.

If you cannot find the code for your business on the list, you can enter 999999.

The highest code they have listed is 999000 for anything not classified. I haven't tried that yet but would assume it will work.
