Why does Turbo Tax always make me use self-employed? I am a registered nurse teaching at a community college, full professor. What other option is there?

Is the self-employed designation the only way to itemize professionally related expenses?

If you are paid on a 1099-MISC, you must use Self Employed to enter associated expenses. If you are a W-2 employee, you can use Deluxe.

Thanks. Next year I will try to change it as that no longer applies. All I have is a W-2.
