We received a 1098-T, and the scholarship amt in block 5 is higher than received. What do I report for the educational credit? Actual or reported amt?

You can adjust the amount of scholarship actually received as follows.
· Type "form 1098-T" in the Search box, then select Jump to 1098-T.
· When you work through the screens, you will come to one titled Here is Your Education Summary.
· Scroll down to Scholarships/grants (for all schools). The amount listed here should be the amount of your scholarship on the 1098-T. Click Edit.
· Did [You] Receive a Scholarship or Grant in 2016? Click Yes, then Continue.
Did [Your] Aid Include Amounts Not Awarded for 2016 Expenses? Select Yes, and enter the amount of the scholarship that was for 2017 expenses.
