If you filed a joint return with your spouse, then ALL of your income was supposed to be entered on your joint return, including the SSA1099 for your Social Security. Did you enter the SSA1099? What does it show on lines 6a and 6b of the Form 1040 for those tax years?
Was the SSDI as reported on the SSA-1099 entered on the tax return? TurboTax has no way to know if the taxpayer has received a SSA-1099 so they must enter that information manually.
Social Security benefits, as reported by the taxpayer, would be entered on the federal tax return, Form 1040. The benefit received is on Line 6a and the taxable amount, if any, is on Line 6b.
Up to 85% of Social Security Retirement/Disability/Survivors benefits becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security reaches:
Married Filing Jointly - $32,000
Single or Head of Household - $25,000
Married Filing Separately - 0
And...if you discover that you did not enter your SSA1099 on your joint returns, you will need to amend.
