Teleworking

If you are a W2 employee of this new job, employee business expenses are not tax deductible on your Federal tax return. This change was instituted for tax years beginning in 2018 due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. 

 

Depending on what state you live in, some states do still allow a deduction for employee business expenses on the state income tax return. 

 

This TurboTax article provides some details on how to enter these expenses to see if you might be eligible for a state deduction.

 

If your new "job" is self-employment, then home office expenses may be deductible. See this article about the Home Office Deduction for more details.
