IRA tax Credit for Solar

Had to have trees removed to have solar installed. Can that cost be claimed for 30% tax credit?

IRA tax Credit for Solar

Yes, the cost of tree removal can be included in the 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit if the tree removal was necessary for the installation of your solar panels. This is because the IRS allows you to include all costs necessary for the installation of your solar panels, which can include site preparation like tree removal.

Residential energy property costs are costs of new qualified energy
property that is installed on or in connection with a home that you
used during 2024 located in the United States. Include any labor
costs properly allocable to the onsite preparation, assembly, or
original installation of the energy property.

To claim this credit, you’ll need to:

  1. Keep Documentation: Maintain detailed records and receipts for the tree removal and the solar installation.
  2. Form 5695: Complete IRS Form 5695, “Residential Energy Credits,” and include the tree removal costs as part of the total installation cost.
