I overfunded my solo 401K in 2022 (first time setting up and funding). Being in California, my taxes aren't due until October 15 (emergency state or something). I am ready to request the brokerage firm to return the overpayment plus small interest accrued to me with their form.
My understanding is that if the overpayment is returned to me prior to filing, there is no penalty (maybe the interest acrued, although some of it is legit from the portion staying in the 401K). However, not sure how to enter this into my Turbotax Home & Business, and what forms it will need to create and if I need to do separate notification to IRS and Franchise Tax Board.
Thoughts and insights please?
Thanks so much,
Adam
