Hello.
I used to have joint marriage filing with my husband with my ITIN. Then we revoked to separate marriage filing in 2022. I got green card in 2024, so shall we continue separate marriage filing for the year of 2023. Then we can revoke joint marriage filing in 2024?
Thanks!

Hi Ningnunu,
Thank you for the question. Based upon your information, the filing status has two options, married filing joint (MFJ) or married filing separate (MFS). My suggestion would be to review IRS information about the filing status. Each of the filing status will have some advantages and disadvantages specifically on credits and deductions, i.e. child tax credit, retirement contribution, etc. I have posted a link about filing status here in this post. The ITIN matter is an issue for filing tax return and not tied to the type of tax return. I have also included a link for claiming dependents as well.
Hopefully these links will help you with the information needed to complete your current tax return and for tax year 2024 upcoming. Thank you for attending today's live event.
