Are you sure you don't have any unearned income? Unearned income is basically any income that wasn't from working. It could be interest from a bank, Social Security benefits, or even unemployment benefits. Any income that's not on a W-2 or from self-employment is probably unearned income. Here's the definition of unearned income from the IRS Instructions for Form 8615, Tax for Certain Children Who Have Unearned Income. The same definition applies to California in most cases.

"Unearned income is generally all income other than salaries, wages, and other amounts received as pay for work actually performed (earned income). It includes taxable interest, dividends, capital gains (including capital gain distributions), rents, royalties, pension and annuity income, taxable scholarship and fellowship grants not reported on Form W-2, unemployment compensation, alimony, the taxable part of social security and pension payments, and income (other than earned income) received as the beneficiary of a trust."

Although they are not mentioned in the IRS instructions, hobby income and the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend are also unearned income.

It's not clear what you mean by "ChildrenCalifornia Formwith" or where in TurboTax you see a check box that you want to uncheck. Are you asking about something in the federal tax return or in a California tax return?

The tag below your question says that you are using TurboTax Deluxe Online. Is that correct?
