How do I add the Form 8862? Turbo tax says to let it fix it but once refiled, it still came back rejected with same error.

Please follow these instructions to complete Form 8862 in TurboTax Online:

  • Login to your TurboTax Account
  • Click "Take Me To My Return"
  • Click "Search" in the upper right corner, then type "8862" in the Search Box
  • When the results populate, click the "Jump to Link
  • This will take you to the Earned Income Credit Section. Click "Continue"
  • Walk through the TurboTax interview questions until you get to "Do any of these uncommon situations apply?" and check the box that says, "I/we got a letter/notice from the IRS telling me/us to fill out an 8862 form to claim the Earned Income Credit"
  • Select "Continue" then "Done"
  • Next to "Since you got an IRS notice, we need to check on a few things", select "No, none of these apply and I need to fill out the 8862 form"
  •  Select "Continue" and answer the remaining questions and retransmit your return

It won’t let me file 8862. It’ll say I don’t qualify and that’s it

It is a good idea to first clear your cache and cookies - which means removing all of the temporary programs that can gum up your web browser.  If that doesn't work, try using a different web browser.

You are probably better off having someone walk through the return with you to look at your entries so I recommend getting live expert help.

However, that requires upgrading your product which may be an expense you don't want.  In that case you can call an expert and ask questions over the phone.
