Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

How can I find how much I made individually (separate from my wife), rather than combined income with my wife?

I'm trying to fill out FASFA and I need to know how much my wife and I made separately. The tax form shows how much we made combined. I've misplaced my W2's. Where can I find my individual income on the tax form?

Your individual income is not on your Form 1040 if you filed a joint return.  When you file jointly the income is all added together.  You should have saved your W-2's--but you know that now.

TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s).   You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $86).

If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS:  It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received.  It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.

The only way to get that breakdown, in  TurboTax Online (TTO), is manually.  With the desktop (download or CD) software, a worksheet is available listing the income attributable to each spouse.

With TTO, for  each piece of income, you entered, you were asked to check a box as to which spouse the income belongs to. A third choice was bot. When both is selected, it is assumed 50% belongs to each spouse.  Manually, you will look at each input sheet (W-2, 1099, etc) and obtain each spouse's income.
