Yes, the actual out-of-pocket travel expenses are deductible if your attendance was required, or recommended, at the event and it was in relation to your volunteer work for the organization. Also, see this about deducting volunteer work:

How to get to that area : While inside the software and working on your return, type charitable donation in the Search at the top of the screen (you may see a magnifying glass there). There will be a popup that says Jump to charitable donation . Select that to get to the general area.

Yes, as a volunteer, you can deduct all out of pocket expenses as cash contributions as well as 14 cents per mile for travel via auto in the service of the organization.
To report volunteer expenses in TurboTax:
- Click My Account (Top right of your screen).
- Select Tools.
- In the pop up window, select Topic Search.
- In the search bar, type in charitable contributions.
- Highlight it and select GO, and follow the prompts.
