**Tax Year 2018 or earlier** I was awarded attorneys fees during my divorce proceedings in addition to a portion of community property. Is the amount I received for attorneys fees taxable?

**Tax Year 2018 or earlier** I was awarded attorneys fees during my divorce proceedings in addition to a portion of community property. Is the amount I received for attorneys fees taxable?
The legal fees you paid an attorney to collect alimony or for tax advice are deductible. General divorce attorney fees are not.

Deductible attorney fees will be limited to a 2% threshold. Here is more information on that:

They are not considered taxable income either.
