Income not taxable in Massachusetts subject to federal tax

I received a W2 from a town in Massachusetts for Senior Workoff.  The funds reduce my house taxes and is taxable in federal but not state.  When Imenter in turbo tax I leave the state portion blank but it stills brings  the salary forward to my state return.  How do I fix this?

Income not taxable in Massachusetts subject to federal tax

The state program begins with all income brought over. How to remove the nontaxable portion depends on what you are using:

Desktop

  1. Enter your MA return
  2. Switch to forms mode
  3. Open form MA Sch Y for Other Deductions
  4. Locate Line 9a
  5. enter your nontaxable Sr Workoff income
  6. Select EXPLAIN
  7. A statement pops up that attaches to your state return
  8. Select Step by step and complete your return

Online

  1. File your federal return only
  2. Delete the w2 for Sr Work off from the federal program
  3. File your state return
