I have a qualified dependent, a son who is a full-time student in dependent for whom I have paid more than half of expenses. Last year I filed married separately. This year I am divorced and filing as head of household.

Am I Head of Household?
If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
Were you divorced as of December 31? If not, then you would still need to file as married filing separately unless you lived apart from your spouse for the entire last 6 months of the year. If you did live apart for the entire last 6 months of the year and you have a dependent, you will need to walk through the questions in TurboTax and answer them accurately. Once you tell TurboTax that you are divorced and then continue on to answer the questions about your son, it will give you the status of Head of Household as long as you qualify.
It will not do this until you enter all of your sons information as a dependent.
But I don’t see a way to get back to that screen. When I go back to my information, there is no option for filing status.
You just tell the system that you are not married and you have a dependent. If you qualify the system will offer to set up Head-of-Household for you.
Just go to the personal information section and go through all of the steps again. You can check the box for single or divorced as long as it was final on December 31st.
Thanks so much! I was able to figure out how to change my information and choose head of household. Saved me $3000! It’s ridiculous how much single people are taxed!!
