Claiming dependents

My Fiancé and her daughter live with me. My fiancé doesn’t work and I pay for everything. Her and her ex would alternate years claiming their child, but he just passed. Because my fiancé doesn’t work and didn’t claim her daughter for 2023, Intuit said she doesn’t need to file. Can I get any reprieve by claiming one or both of them?

Claiming dependents

You can claim both your fiance and her child as "other" dependents on tax return as long as they both lived with you all year. You would still be single not Head of Household.  Once you are married you will file Married filing jointly and claim her child as if it were yours. Here are some very helpful links:

Your partner and the children must be a member of your household, meaning that they lived with you for the entire calendar year.
