You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and mail it in. You will need to use a form called a 1040X. You cannot e-file an amended return. They have to be mailed, and it takes at least 2-3 months for the IRS to process an amended return. Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

The same thing happened to me last year. You can correct it but you will need to create an amendment to your return. TurboTax has a feature to create amendments. Once you make the correction, you can finalize the return again with the amendment. However, amended returns have to submitted in the mail.
You don’t answer my questions!! I didn’t know there where different turbo accounts, called IRS and didn’t understand why the 5 digit I needed to add to efile!! I know I signed my efile, but didn’t see it when uploaded!! Can I cancel this and start a new income tax, not happy at all with Turbo, I filed single because my daughter is 18 and has a job and files her own know
If you already filed your return you will need to wait to see if it was rejected or accepted. If they were rejected you are able to login to your return to fix what you need to fix and fix the errors that caused the rejection and refile the return. If your returns were accepted, then you will need to file an amended return. You should not try to amend your return until the original return it has been fully processed and you have received your refund or your payment has cleared.
Amended returns do not “catch up” to your original return and replace them; they are processed as two separate returns.
Amended returns have to be printed and filed by mail. It can take the IRS up to 12 weeks or longer to process them. If you are due a larger refund than on your original return, your amended return should only show the difference and you will receive a separate check for it. If you owe money on your amended return, it will show only the new amount owed, you will have to mail a check with the return.
You can check the status of your amended return by clicking here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x-/wheres-my-amended-return-1

OPPS, I already monkeyed with my return. Will the IRS return my electronic file if they reject it? What can I do now?
@mddimiceli If your return is rejected by the IRS, you will receive a notification containing a reject code indicating the reason for the rejection. Please visit the Help Article below for information on how to fix a rejected return.
How do I fix a rejected return? - Intuit
My electronic file in turbotax is corrupted. Can I get a copy of it somewhere else?
Was your return rejected? you may confirm by using this tool @mddimiceli.
Not yet. According to an email from turbotax it was accepted by the IRS.
Are you getting a specific error message for your tax file besides corrupted? Is this in reference to your question earlier about a possible Rejected return? Are you using Windows or Mac? Please post additional details here and someone will follow up with the next steps.
Here is the whole story: I efiled February 17, 2022. After 4+ weeks I became concerned that I had done something wrong so I went back in the file and checked to be sure I had included everything. Then I did something that I shouldn't have, I saved the file after changing things. Big Mistake, so please don't scold me for it. Now the file On my computer is not the same one I efiled. I did create a new file, (which I what I should have done) and the refund result is considerably lower that the first one. My concern now is if the IRS asks for an amended return, I don't have an accurate file to amend. I do Have a PFD of the original file, though.
So my question is is it possible to get my original file back?
What version of TurboTax do you have?
