Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

So after I completed my tax return, I realized I used a closed bank account. I cannot enter the return to amend the error. Can I receive a paper check instead?

I didn’t use my account much and it had no balance so the bank closed the account in December, I wasn’t aware of this until today. Can an employee please edit my return to receive a paper check to the address I have entered? Additionally I paid a direct deposit fee, if I receive a paper check can I get the fee returned to me? Please email hardwicktyler25@gmail.com AND hardwicktyler44@gmail.com to ensure I don’t miss the email

If you e-filed:

Banking information for direct deposit is wrong or closed

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.  Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information

If your refund is sent back to the IRS—- make certain that the address you entered on your Form 1040 is correct.  And…open all mail, even if it looks like junk mail.

And....you did not pay a "direct deposit fee."   There is no such fee.   Did you choose to pay your TurboTax fees by having them deducted from your federal refund.  That $40 fee was a "refund processing" fee that is charged by the third party bank that will receive your refund when the IRS issues it.  That bank then pays TurboTax, takes $40 for itself, and sends the rest of the refund to your bank account.  That means there is an extra layer of confusion now since you entered wrong banking information.

Your refund will go back to the third party bank. The third party bank might issue and mail you a check, or they might send your refund back to the IRS and then you will have to wait for the IRS to mail you a check.

If the third party bank mails the check, it will come in a plain envelope via first class mail so make sure you open all mail and do not assume anything is junk mail without opening it.  While you are waiting, make sure that the address you entered on your tax return is correct, or your problem will be even worse.
