While doing my 2024 taxes I got a message like this:
Carry over worksheet. Total withheld/pmts must be entered. We still need to know...
I did not know what to do with it because there was no explanation. I just plugged in a number (10000) figuring I could find that and fix it later. This value now shows up on my Carryover Worksheet. I see it tags it as "NJ" like it came from filling out a state form. The Carryover Worksheet form does not allow editing. Attempts to use Override just adds a new line. And I can't find any way to search by value to find the place to reenter the it. I have stepped through every input using the "walk me through" method. It is not there. How can I change this value?
And what do I put there once I find the place?

Try going back through the section of your return where you entered or verified receiving a 2023 state tax refund.
This is in the Wages and Income > Other Common Income > State and Local Tax Refunds on Form 1099-G section of your return. When an amount is entered for your previous year's state tax refund, there may be an additional question about the total payments and withholdings amount.
The amount that should be reported there would be found on your 2023 state tax return.
I went to 1099-MISC and Other Common Income > State and Local Refunds on Form 12099-G and there is nothing there:
There was no place to change values equal to the 10000.
However... I did come up with a fix: I deleted the 1099-G and reentered it. The 10000 disappeared from the Carryover Worksheet and I pass the "review" without errors.
Thanks for pointing me to the area to nuke and reenter.
