Can I file for the Washington State Families Tax Credit using TurboTax?
New for tax year 2024 was the integration of the Washington State Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC) into TurboTax. Taxpayers in Washington eligible for this credit can now seamlessly file for it from within their TurboTax account. Customers no longer need to create a separate submission to the state.
The Washington WFTC is a tax refund that returns a portion of sales tax paid each year to eligible Washington state residents. Individuals and families are eligible when they meet all of the following criteria:
Have a valid Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
Are at least 25 but under 65 years of age or have a qualifying child
Lived in Washington a minimum of 183 days in 2025 (over half the year)
Filed a 2025 federal tax return
Are eligible to claim the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (or are only disqualified due to ITIN)
Meet the income requirements based on filing status and family size
The amount of the credit that the taxpayer receives will vary depending on the number of qualifying children and income thresholds. The minimum credit amount is $50. The credit will be reduced based on income thresholds, with the maximum credit of $1,330 for taxpayers with three qualifying children.
To complete your application for the Working Families Tax Credit, please follow these instructions below:
Open or continue your return.
Select State, then select Start next to Washington.
On the screen, Finish up your Washington return, select Start next to Working Families Tax Credit.
Select Start my application on the screen, Start your WA State Working Families Credit application.
Answer the questions on the following screens.
Once complete, you will get to the screen, Great work finishing up your application. Select Continue.
Select Continue on the screen Ready to Review Your State Return.
Once you file your taxes, TurboTax will automatically transmit your application to the state.
