Why am I getting a repeated error on my Virginia pass-through entity tax credit?

If you’re filing a Virginia state return and keep getting the same error related to the Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Paid field, a default value of 0 in that field may be causing the issue. Clearing it will let you move forward.

How to fix this error

  • Go to your Virginia state return.

  • Continue through the screens until you get to the Take a look at Virginia credits and taxes screen.

  • Under Business and investment credits, select Revisit next to Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Payment Credit.

  • On the Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Payment Paid screen, if the field shows a 0, clear it so the field is blank.

  • Continue through your return, clear any remaining errors, and transmit.
