How to verify your identity with documents

Documents that we accept

Primary documents:

• Driver's License or State ID
• US Passport

Secondary documents:

• Social Security Card
• Full utility bill

If you are able to log into your Intuit Credit Karma account

If you have a valid driver's license or state ID, then you may be able to verify your identity yourself using a smartphone. 

Once you have your driver's license or state ID, you can login and submit a picture of your ID using the secure portal:

If you are not able to log into your Credit Karma account 

If you haven’t done so already, please contact us. We will help you upload your documents by providing you with an encrypted link to the secure file upload portal.

To ensure that we can verify your documents as quickly as possible, please follow the instructions below when you are ready submit your documents to the secure file upload portal: 

• Submit two different forms of identification
  • Either two primary documents OR 
  • One primary and one secondary document
• Documents should be current, valid and the information should match the information we have on file for your account
• Take a picture or a scan of the original document on a flat, dark surface 
  • Provide photos or scans of the front and back of the document 
  • Include all 4 sides and 4 corners in the image
  • Make sure images are clear and legible 
  • Submissions should be free of obstruction or glare 
  • Photos and scans should be provided in full color  
• When uploading images of your documents to the secure file upload portal, only the following file types can be accepted: 
  • PNG
  • PDF
  • JPEG

Primary Documents

Driver’s License or State ID

Your Driver’s License or State ID submission must meet the following requirements:

• Include images of both the front and the back of the document
• Include all 4 corners of the license or ID
  • Do not obstruct corners or sides with fingers 
• Be current
  • The expiration date is set in the future
  • Due to the COVID pandemic, we understand it may be difficult for you to renew your recently expired documents. Many states have temporarily extended expiration dates on some documents. Please check with your state’s DMV resources. 
• Be valid 
  • Damaged or hole punched Driver’s Licenses and IDs cannot be accepted
• All personal information must be visible and legible: 
  • Full name
  • Postal address 
  • Picture 
  • Date of birth (DOB)
  • Expiration date 
  • Unique ID number

Also acceptable: Probationary Driver's License, Municipal ID Card, Diplomatic ID Card or Tribal ID Card
 

U.S. Passport 

Your Passport submission must meet the following requirements:

• Contain an image with the passport open on the main identification page 
  • Images of the back or other pages of the passport are not necessary
• Be current
  • The expiration date is set in the future
• Be valid 
  • Damaged or hole punched passports cannot be accepted
• All personal information must be visible and legible: 
  • Full name 
  • Picture
  • Date of birth (DOB)
  • Expiration date 
  • Unique ID number

Also acceptable: Non-U.S. Passport, U.S. Passport Card, Global Entry Card, Non-immigrant Visa
 

Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)

Your Permanent Resident Card submission must meet the following requirements:

• Include images of both the front and the back of the card
• Include all 4 corners of the card
  • Do not obstruct corners or sides with fingers 
• Be current
  • The expiration date is set in the future
• Be valid 
  • 2-year or 10-year cards can be accepted
  • Damaged cards cannot be accepted
• All personal information must be visible and legible: 
  • Full Name 
  • Picture 
  • Date of Birth (DOB) 
  • Expiration date (unless Certificate of Naturalization) 
  • Unique ID number 

Also acceptable: Certificate of Naturalization, Employment Authorization Card, Resident Alien Card, Border Crossing Card

Military ID

Your Military ID submission must meet the following requirements:

• Include images of both the front and the back of the ID
• Include all 4 corners of the ID
  • Do not obstruct corners or sides with fingers 
• Be current
  • The expiration date is set in the future
• Must be valid 
  • Must not have hole-punches
  • Damaged ID’s cannot be accepted
• All personal information must be visible and legible: 
  • Full Name 
  • Picture 
  • Date of Birth (DOB)
  • Unique ID number 

Secondary Documents

Birth Certificate

Your Birth Certificate submission must meet the following requirements:

• Include images of both the front and the back of the document
• Include all 4 corners of the document
  • Do not obstruct corners or sides with fingers 
• Be Valid
• All personal information must be visible and match what we have on file for your account

Also acceptable: Adoption Certificate, Birth Certificate Card
 

Marriage Certificate

Your Marriage Certificate submission must meet the following requirements:

• Must provide images of both the front and the back of document
• All four corners and 4 sides of the document must be visible 
• All personal information must be visible and match what we have on file for your account.

Also acceptable: Divorce Decree or Court Order

Social Security Card

Your Social Security Card submission must meet the following requirements:

• Include images of both the front and the back of the document
• Include all 4 corners of the document
  • Do not obstruct corners or sides with fingers 
• Be Valid
  • Laminated cards can be accepted
  • Damaged cards cannot be accepted
• All personal information must be visible and match what we have on file for your account:
  • Full name 
  • Social Security Number (SSN)

Utility Bills 

If you are using a utility bill as a verification document, it must meet the following criteria:

• The bill should include your full name and match what we have on file for you
• Your “property at” or “service at” address must match what we have on file for you
  • Submissions without the “property at” or “service at” statement cannot be accepted 
  • Envelopes associated with the utility bill cannot be accepted
  • Screenshots of utility bills can be accepted as long as the “property at” or “service at” statement is visible
