Although there is no specific topic in TurboTax Business for entering a Form 1099-R Retirement Distribution on a Form 1041 Trust return, you can enter the information according to the boxes that are reported on the form.

  • Open TurboTax Business Desktop.

  • Select Federal Taxes.

  • Select the Income tab.

  • On the Your Income screen, locate Other income or loss and select Start.

  • On the screen Any other income? select Yes.

  • On the screen Other Income, enter 1099-R Box 2a in the Other Income section and enter the taxable amount from Box 2a in the Amount section.

  • Select Federal Taxes.

  • Select the Other tab.

  • On the screen Do Any Other Tax Situations Apply to the Estate? locate the Additional Tax Payments section and select Start next to Other Tax Withholdings.

  • Enter the amount from Box 4.

Note: You can only file a Trust Return in TurboTax Business Desktop. If you’re using TurboTax Online Business, read How do I switch from TurboTax Online to TurboTax Desktop?
