My card was declined

If your transaction is being declined when you try to use your Credit Karma Visa® Debit Card it may be due to an issue with your account, the card, or the transaction itself. You can try the following if your transaction is declined:

  1. Confirm your transaction: For your account’s security, you may receive a notification to confirm you were the one who initiated a transaction on your account. Sign into the Credit Karma App to confirm the transaction so you can continue to use your card without disruptions. If this was not you, then sign into the app and tap “not me” for next steps.
  1. Try again: sometimes there is an issue at the point of sale that can be resolved by trying your transaction again. Please make sure your transaction was in fact denied the first time before trying again to avoid multiple charges.
  1. Make sure you are entering the correct PIN: debit transactions using your PIN will be declined if you enter an incorrect PIN. You can reset your PIN by logging into your Credit Karma Money Spend account.
  • If you enter an incorrect PIN 3 times your card is automatically locked. You can retry with the correct PIN after 24 hours or you can also try resetting your PIN.
  1. Make sure you have enough available funds in your account to cover your transaction: There is no overdraft with your Credit Karma Money Spend account,* so if the transaction amount exceeds your available balance the transaction may be declined. 
  1. Ask the merchant to process your payment as a credit: this allows you to sign for the transaction rather than entering your PIN, and may help complete your transaction if you are having trouble. 
  1. Try a different form of payment: in some cases, you may not be able to immediately resolve the reason your card is declined. It is a good idea to keep an alternative payment method such as cash, another debit card, or a credit card with you so you have a backup in case your preferred payment is declined. 


Declined at a fuel pump?

To complete a purchase directly at the fuel pump, please choose the Debit option to enter your PIN for the purchase. Transactions directly at the fuel pump are unable to be processed as credit when using your Credit Karma Visa® Debit Card.
 

If you are unable to process the fuel purchase as a debit directly at the pump, please complete your purchase inside with the gas station cashier.
