How do I clear and start over?

SOLVEDby TurboTax51796Updated October 02, 2023

As long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered your product, you can erase your return and start from scratch in TurboTax Online. If you have done any of these things, you'll need to manually edit your return.

If you started your tax return in TurboTax Free Edition (for simple returns only; not all taxpayers are eligible), you won't need to clear and start over. You can select Switch to Free Edition instead. Remember, you’ll need to upgrade before you file if you have info that isn’t covered in a simple tax return.

Select your product below and follow the steps to clear and start over.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax and open or continue your return, if you haven’t already
  2. Select Tax Tools from the left menu, then Clear & Start Over
  3. Answer Yes to confirm
  1. Sign in to the mobile app and select More from the bottom menu
  2. Select Clear and Start Over
  3. Select Clear and Start Over to confirm
