How do I amend my 2025 Minnesota state tax return to correct the Advance Payment of Minnesota Child Tax Credit?
Some Minnesota TurboTax customers might need to amend their state taxes due to an error with their Advance Payment of Minnesota Child Tax Credit.
If we notified you, we recommend you review your state tax return and, if needed, amend it as soon as possible. If you need to amend and the result is a tax underpayment, amending by April 15, 2026 will help you avoid penalties and interest. If you need to amend and the result was a tax overpayment, you’ll be able to get the money back in your pocket where it belongs!
To correct your return, please follow the steps below:
Use TurboTax to amend your state tax return.
Enter “TO CORRECT ADVANCE PAYMENT OF MINNESOTA CHILD TAX CREDIT” as the reason for amending.
Visit the "Advance Payment of Minnesota Child Tax Credit" screen and answer Yes or No to the question on the screen.
If the refund/amount owed doesn’t change, you won’t need to file an amended Minnesota return and you can stop here.
If the refund/amount owed changes, continue with the steps to file an amended Minnesota return.
Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to print, sign, and date the amended state tax return. The amended return will need to be mailed to the address provided with the instructions.
