How do I amend my 2024 South Carolina state tax return to exclude Non-Military Spouse Income?
Some South Carolina TurboTax customers might need to amend their state taxes due to an error with their Non-Military Spouse Income.
If we notified you, we recommend you review your state return and, if needed, amend it as soon as possible.
To correct your return, please follow the steps below.
Use TurboTax to amend your state tax return.
Once the return is open, revisit the South Carolina income section.
Click “Done with income” to get to the SC part-year and non-residents allocation screen.
Review the income allocation and make any corrections needed.
Based on your entries, check the SC refund/balance due meter at the top of the screen.
If the SC meter shows a refund/balance due amount, then the return needs to be amended and you will need to continue with the amend instructions.
If the SC meter does not show a change, then the return does not need to be amended and you can stop.
Enter “TO EXCLUDE NON-MILITARY SPOUSE INCOME UNDER MSRRA” as the reason for amending.
Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to efile the amended South Carolina return.
Save a copy of your amended state tax return for your records.
