How do I amend my 2024 return to fix the Vehicle Lease Payment Expense?
Some TurboTax customers have overpaid their taxes due to an error with the Vehicle Lease Payment Expense.
If we notified you, we recommend you submit an amended federal and, if applicable, state tax return as soon as possible. By filing an amended return, you’ll be able to get the money back in your pocket where it belongs!
To correct your return, please follow the steps below.
TurboTax Online
Use TurboTax to amend your federal tax return and, if applicable, your state return.
Enter “TO CORRECT VEHICLE LEASE PAYMENT EXPENSE” as the reason for amending.
Revisit the Business Expenses section of your federal return to verify the information entered for your vehicle expense is correct.
Navigate to the Income & Expenses section of your federal return.
On the summary screen, find the category for Self-Employment Income & Expenses and select Edit/Review.
On your business summary page, scroll to the Business Expenses section and select Edit.
Within the list of expenses, locate the line for Vehicle and select Edit.
Proceed through the interview screens, reviewing and correcting the information you entered for your vehicle lease payment, mileage, or other expenses. If there was no vehicle lease payment, enter -0-.
Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to efile the amended federal tax return.
For the state amended return,
If you live in these states, follow the TurboTax instructions to efile your amended state return.
Otherwise, you will need to print, date and sign the amended return and mail it to the address shown in the TurboTax instructions.
Save a copy of your amended tax return(s) for your records.
