How do I amend my 2023 tax return to correct my Roth IRA contribution?

Due to a TurboTax error, some customers were allowed to contribute to a Roth IRA when their modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) exceeded the Roth contribution limits. As a result, these customers were allowed to make excess contributions to Roth IRAs and weren't taxed for the excess.

If we notified you, we recommend you submit an amended federal tax return as soon as possible to avoid additional penalties and interest on the unpaid balance.

To correct your return, please follow the steps below.

    • Enter “TO CORRECT ROTH IRA CONTRIBUTION” as the reason for amending.

  • Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to efile the amended federal tax return.

  • Save a copy of your amended federal tax return for your records.

If you have questions, call 844-333-2161 (Monday–Friday, 5 AM to 5 PM ET) to speak with a specialist. Mention 2023 Roth IRA Contributions so they know what you’re calling about.
