How do I amend my 2023 tax return to correct my Form 3800 Energy Credit?

Due to a TurboTax error, some customers had their business solar energy credits doubled. As a result, some customers underpaid their taxes and other customers didn't correctly report the carryover amount related to unused credits.

If we notified you, we recommend you submit an amended federal tax return as soon as possible to correct the carryover amount and, if your taxes were underpaid, avoid additional penalties and interest on the unpaid balance.

To correct your return, please follow the steps below.

    • Enter “TO CORRECT FORM 3800 ENERGY CREDIT” as the reason for amending.

  • Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to efile the amended federal tax return.

  • Save a copy of your amended federal tax return for your records.

  • NOTE: All customers should amend their returns to correct the carryover amount.

If you have questions, call 844-333-2161 (Monday–Friday, 5 AM to 5 PM PT) to speak with a specialist. Mention 2023 Form 3800 Energy Credit so they know what you’re calling about.
