How do I amend my 2023 Iowa state tax return to correct my health insurance deduction?
by TurboTax• Updated 6 months ago
Some Iowa TurboTax customers might have underpaid their state taxes due to an error with their health insurance deduction.
If we notified you, we recommend you review your return and, if needed, amend your state tax return as soon as possible to avoid additional penalties and interest on the unpaid balance.
To correct your return, please follow the steps below.
- To determine if you need to amend your state tax return:
- Write down the original refund or balance due amount for your Iowa income taxes. We recommend you check the paper/PDF copy of your return(s), or your banking records to verify the correct amount.
- Launch TurboTax and open your 2023 return.
- Compare the refund or balance due amount with the amount you wrote down.
- If the amounts are different, then you need to amend your tax return.
- If the amounts are the same, you do not need to amend your tax return.
- To amend, use TurboTax to amend your state tax return.
- Enter “TO CORRECT HEALTH INSURANCE DEDUCTION” as the reason for amending.
- Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to print, sign, date and mail the amended state tax return along with the balance due.
- Save a copy of your amended state tax return for your records.
