How do I amend my 2023 Delaware state tax return to correct my itemized deductions?
by TurboTax• Updated 5 months ago
Due to an error, some Delaware TurboTax customers filing as Married Filing Combined Separate didn't correctly report their itemized deductions on their state tax return.
If we notified you, we recommend you submit an amended state tax return as soon as possible to avoid additional penalties and interest on the unpaid balance.
To amend your return, please follow the steps below.
- Use TurboTax to amend your state tax return.
- Once you have logged into TurboTax and selected to amend the state return, you will need to revisit the Itemized Deductions section of the Delaware state interview.
- When you reach the Itemized Deductions screen,
- Gather all documents that include state tax withholding for the spouse.
- Total the state tax withholding amounts for the spouse. If estimated state tax payments were made, allocate a portion of the payments to the spouse based on their percentage of the total income
- On the Itemized Deductions screen, enter the amount from step above into the space provided for State Taxes Paid by the spouse. Then select Continue.
- Enter “TO CORRECT ITEMIZED DEDUCTIONS” as the reason for amending.
- Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to print, sign, date and mail the amended state tax return along with the balance due.
- Save a copy of your amended state tax return for your records.
