How do I amend my 2023 Colorado state tax return to correct my Wildfire Mitigation Credit?
Some Colorado TurboTax customers have overpaid their state taxes due to an error with the Wildfire Mitigation Credit.
If we notified you, we recommend you submit an amended state tax return as soon as possible. By filing an amended return, you’ll be able to get the money back in your pocket where it belongs!

To correct your return, please follow the steps below.
Use TurboTax to amend your state tax return.
Once you have logged into TurboTax and selected to amend the state return, you will need to revisit the credits and taxes section of the Colorado state interview.
The Wildfire Mitigation Credit is located in the Personal, home, and family credits section.
Calculate the amount of the credit by multiplying your wildfire mitigation expenses by 25%. The maximum credit is $625.
Enter the wildfire mitigation credit amount in the box provided. Do not exceed $625
Enter “TO CLAIM THE WILDFIRE MITIGATION CREDIT” as the reason for amending.
Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to efile the amended state tax return.
Save a copy of your amended state tax return for your records.
