Why am I seeing error 42016 when trying to open or update TurboTax Desktop?

Some TurboTax Desktop customers may experience an issue when opening or trying to update their TurboTax software. They may see an error that says Could not connect to update site Error 42016: Unexpected content received.

To fix this issue, manually update your software.
