What should I enter as my prior year AGI on my 2021 tax return if I’m still waiting for my 2020 tax return to be processed?

SOLVEDby TurboTax152Updated January 26, 2022

If you’re still waiting for your 2020 tax return to be processed, enter $0 for your prior year’s adjusted gross income (AGI) on your 2021 tax return. You’ll need to provide your AGI to e-file your 2021 tax return.

If you used the Non-Filers tool in 2021 to register for an advance Child Tax Credit payment or third Economic Impact Payment, enter $1 for your prior year’s AGI on your 2021 tax return.

Tax returns for 2020 that are still unprocessed include returns with errors and returns requiring special handling such as correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC).
