Why should I switch accounts?

SOLVEDby TurboTaxTurboTax Online10206Updated January 24, 2022

While there are several reasons why switching accounts could become necessary — such as repeated, unsuccessful attempts to reactivate an account that just simply can't be recovered — in general, it's usually recommended to stay with your current account.

We recommend staying with the account that has your most current info because:

  • Your most current account has all of your info from last year, so you don't have to re-enter it again
  • Your most current account has last year's adjusted gross income, a number that the IRS requires to file your taxes
  • You may still be able to use benefits you paid for last year (like access to prior year returns and phone support)
