Not all forms in TurboTax are available yet. Your tax return may be not be accurate if you need some of the forms that are not available. Look in the Review section to see if there are forms you need that are not yet available and when they are estimated to be available.

With all the tax changes that occurred this year, it is possible the estimator is not as accurate as in past years.

There is no way to guess what might be causing the difference. Someone would have to know every detail of your tax situation to be able to do that. One thing to look at is child tax credit. The amount of child tax credit you can get is limited by your tax liability. You must have a tax liability for it to offset in order to get the full amount.

It's not even the dependent issue. I have a very simple filing and the refund will be around half of what taxcaster shows. I'm middle income, single, no dependents, and just file with the standard deduction and it's still extremely inaccurate. My guess is it was never updated for the tax code updates. I even went back and calculated it my hand since standard deductions are really easy and taxcaster is about double my real tax returns.
