NY TURBOTAX won't proceed without a value in box 14 of 1099R.

1099R has values in boxes 12+13, 14 is blank and NY TURBOTAX won't proceed without a value in box 14. HELP !  This did not produce an error 2 days ago, and I have not updated the software since then. Now I can't pass by SMART CHECK without an error.

NY TURBOTAX won't proceed without a value in box 14 of 1099R.

Box 14 is not usually required because it has been an 1099-R industrial standard for many years that if there is only one state in box 12 & 13 then the box 1 amount does not need to be allocated between two states - the entire box 1 amount is understood to be the state distribution so box 14 is just left blank.

But recently, there are at least two states that will reject 1099-R's with a state tax and a blank box 14 so it is okay to enter the box 1 amount into box 14 to satisfy the states requirement.

Thanks for the reply and suggested way out of my predicament.   I also found this stated elsewhere (<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3146694-what-amount-should-i-enter-into-box-14-for-1099-r-in-turbo...

There ought to be a better way for Turbotax to handle this, even if it is a New York issue. Otherwise their users are left in the dark until someone like you comes along. Thanks again.
