I traveled to Italy for 1 month. The time was divided into 40% volunteer, 30% sightseeing and 30% self employment work. Am I able to deduct the 30% that was work related?

The 30% of self employment work was shooting stock photography and stock video footage to sell.

If I could deduct any amount of the trip that would be helpful.

No, you can only deduct the expenses that were directly related to the cost of doing business while in Italy.  So if you had cab fair to meet with a client to sell your photos that would be deductible.  However, your flight, hotel expenses and other expenses not directly related to the cost of business are not deductible.  If you were sightseeing and taking photos at the same time, that would not be deductible.

"Travel Primarily for Personal Reasons

If you travel outside the United States primarily for vacation or for investment purposes, the entire cost of the trip is a nondeductible personal expense. However, if you spend some time attending brief professional seminars or a continuing education program, you can deduct your registration fees and other expenses you have that are directly related to your business." https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463#en_US_2018_publink100033816
