Is it OK to file an extension to wait on my foreign wife's SSN, which should be arriving by May via her work permit?

My Brazilian wife and I got married November 2018. I want to avoid submitting a W-7 for an ITIN if possible. Just wondering if it's OK to file an extension and file our taxes once we get her SSN?

Yes, that is what you should do.  You should never request an ITIN for someone who is SSN-eligible, always wait for the SSN even if you need an extension.
