I have a family member that has not filed for about 6 years and trying to assist him with finances. How should he catch up? Hooking him up with Quicken too. Ken

My Brother went through a divorce, has had a child in and out of rehab for Heroin and drugs and pretty much gave up on his finances. I have him working on cleaning up his school loans and he is currently updating an old computer so I can show him how to use Quicken as well. He has not filed taxes for about 6 years and at the age of 49 he needs to get it together. Where should he start? He says he has all of his W2's and info, but afraid of the IRS coming at him. He has no clue how to manage his finances. Thanks for your help. Ken

He needs to start with the latest year and work his way to the current year. Turbo Tax will guide him on where and how to report the information, and if he needs to print and mail returns in or if they can be e-filed. It is recommended he completes all the years first and then files them. Start here for past returns: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

He will be able to get a total amount due to the IRS and/or his state and try to work out an installment agreement to pay his taxes off monthly. To set up an installment agreement click here: https://www.irs.gov/payments/payment-plans-installment-agreements
