Can I override Virginia 25% withholding limit? Can I get my e-file $24.99 refunded if override not possible? The program will not let me e-file.

I completed all steps and final review, paid $24.99 to e-file VA return. Then the program said my W-2 VA withholding was greater than 25% of wages (by $2.01).  I would like to override the program so I can e-file VA. I should get a refund of my $24.99 fee if that is not possible and I must file by mail.

As far as I know, that cannot be overridden.

You'll have to mail file (and remember to reduce your VA withholding some for 2019).  And don't forget to attach the state copy of any W-2 forms, and any others that show VA withholding on them.

You can get the $25 e-filing fee credited back to you, but you must call Customer Support and indicate you have a "Billing issue"...never use the word "refund" .

What if you just change the amount in box 17?  $2 shouldn't be a big deal.  You don't have to override it.  Just enter a different amount.

I was thinking of that, but was a bit hesitant about suggesting so....maybe $5 to make sure it stays under.

I'm a bit uncertain how VA might respond...they might send a letter later asking for the VA paper copy anyhow  ....or they may just refund a bit more once all is fully processed.  They (VA) might realize it's not worth their effort as long as the employer's w-2 e-submission is ~the same as the Taxpayer's...or over it.
