I have a 1099-R with box 2a taxable, federal tax withheld in box 4 and code 8 in box 7. It is not showing up as taxable income? Why?

I have a 1099-R with box 2a taxable, federal tax withheld in box 4 and code 8 in box 7. It is not showing up as taxable income? Why?

A code "8" is a return of contributions and not a distribution so it does not go on line 4 on the 1040 form as a taxable distribution, the box 2a amount gets added to the line 1 income instead.  The box 4 tax withheld will be added to line 16 along with all other W-2 and 1099 withholding to offset the line 11 tax.

Only the box 2a amount will  get added to line 1.

Delete the 1099-R and re-enter.

"Had (5) 1099-R on my return"  What does that mean?  What is (5)?

I received (5) 1099-r's this year. (2) had taxable income.  (1) was a MRD. It showed up taxable.  The other was a return of contribution.  (3) were moving from 401k to rollover IRA's.  I deleted and reentered and still doesn't show up under wages.  Is there a way to get in touch with turbo tax without paying?

If the rollovers had a code G in box 7 then be sure that yiu answer no to the 401(k) Roth and Roth IRA and the default will be a Traditional IRA.

The RMD 1099-R, if a Traditional IRA, shroud have the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box checked, a code 7 in box 7 and the box 1 amount also in box 2a with box 2b checked.

For the box 8 - what type of account was the contribution for?
What is in box 2a?
is there any other box 7 code besides "8"?
Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box checked?

The other 1099-R  are fine.  I know what I'm doing. It's just this one that was a return of 2017 over contribution and is not showing up as income. It was a 401K return.  No other codes just "8". Not checked.

Only the box 2a amount should be added to line 1 on the 1040.   It should not be on line 4.

I have not problem entering such a 1099-R.

Do you know how I get a hold of Turbotax to have them look at it besides paying?
