why am i not able to recieve my tax refund on a netspend visa prepaid card

If you have a prepaid debit card, you can have your tax refund deposited to that card.  However, in order to do this you will need to contact the company (ex. Netspend, Greendot...etc) and find out what the correct Routing number and account number are.  You will enter this information into TurboTax just like you would enter the Routing number and account number of a bank for direct deposit. You can also get your refund on the Turbo Prepaid Card

When asked how you’d like to receive your tax refund, simply select the TurboSM Prepaid Visa® Card and be sure to review the Cardholder Agreement for fees and terms.

  1. Sign up for the card online. The info you previously entered will automatically appear on the order form. Make sure this info is accurate, as it’ll be used to verify your identity. The Turbo Prepaid Visa Card will be issued under the name of the primary filer on the tax return.
  2. Look for your personalized card to be delivered 5-10 business days after ordering it.
    • Note: A card will be sent to you even if you decide not to receive your refund on it. You won’t be obligated to activate or use the card if you don’t want to, but you’ll want to keep it safe or properly destroy it for your own protection.
  3. As soon as you get your card, activate it online or over phone by following the instructions on the card sticker.
  4. Once the IRS approves and issues your refund, your refund will be deposited directly to your account.

To avoid delays, be sure the name on the tax return is exactly the same as the name on your Turbo Prepaid Visa Card.

1 IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW CARD ACCOUNT: To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card Account. What this means for you: When you open a Card Account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see a copy of your driver’s license or other identifying documents. Card opening is also subject to other fraud prevention measures. While there is no credit check to get a card, certain features are subject to the use of a consumer report. You will be notified prior to any use.

People come to TurboTax AnswerXchange for help and answers—we want to let them know that we're here to listen and share our knowledge. We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines:

  1. Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English.
  2. Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold.
  3. Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link.
  4. Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome.
  5. Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.
