Do I need to file a MN state tax return separately?

I live and work in AZ.  My company also has a location in MN and I traveled to MN to work for a few days.  I have received a W-2 for MN as well as AZ with the MN W-2 only containing state wages (less than $1500) and state income tax (less than $100).  Do I need to file a separate MN state tax return?

If you made $1,500 and you are a nonresident of MN, you do not need to file a MN tax return. However, you should file a Minnesota return to claim a refund for the $100 income tax withheld from your pay

According to the MN Department of Revenue, a nonresident must file if they are:

  • Single and have MN income of $12,250 or more
  • Married and have MN income of $22,600 or more.

See the screenshot below.

Thank you...I must be entering numbers in the wrong place or doing something wrong then because my return keeps coming back with $0 dollars owed to me by the state of MN.  :(

I recreated your situation and was able to get the $100 refund for MN. I added a screenshot in my answer. Also: On the your personal info screen: I lived in another state in 2018 – NO
On the Did you make money in any other states? Screen – Yes, Minnesota

If that doesn't work, delete your W-2 and reenter it.

Thank you
