TurboTax is not allowing dependent expenses for child who turned 14 on 12/28/2018

I put money into a dependent care FSA for my son who turned 14 on12/28/2018 and spent it all while he was 13 in the earlier part of the year.  Also my FSA year starts in July so the account was empty well before he turned 14.  Turbo Tax says he is not eligible for dependent expenses and added my FSA withholdings to my income and is taxing me for this when it is deductible.

If I change his birthdate to 1/1/2005 (4 days later) and add my dependent expenses my tax return increases by $99 federal and $25 state.

This defect is costing me $124!!!

Your child is too old even at age 13.

For the purposes of the Child and Dependent Care Credit, a "Qualifying Person" is defined as one of the following:

  • A child that was age 12 (or younger) for at least part of 2018 and who is also claimed as a dependent on your return
  • Your spouse, if s/he is unable to care for themselves and lived in your home for at least 6 months during 2018
  • Anybody who lived in your home for at least 6 months during 2018 and was unable to care for themselves, if they:
  •  Are claimed as a dependent on your return, or
  • Could have been claimed as your dependent but weren't because their gross income was $4,150 or more, s/he filed a joint return, or you (or your jointly-filing spouse) could be claimed as a dependent on somebody else's 2018 return.
